EmergeLaw Partner Nancy King Named a Finalist for Nashville Bankruptcy Judge

The Sixth Circuit Judicial Council announced that EmergeLaw partner Nancy King and two other candidates have been recommended by the Merit Selection Panel for consideration to replace retiring Judge Marian F. Harrison with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Tennessee in Nashville. The other candidates are Mike Abelow with Sherrard Roe Voigt & Haribson, PLC in Nashville, and Ned Hildebrand with Dunham Hildebrand, PLLC also in Nashville.

As previously reported in this blog, Judge Harrison, who has served as a Nashville Bankruptcy Judge for 25 years, will retire in May of 2024.

A Native Nashvillian, Nancy King is a graduate of Harpeth Hall School, Rhodes College, and the University of Memphis. She graduated in the top of her law school class and was the Comments Editor on the Board of the Law Review. Immediately after graduation, she clerked for the Honorable Hewitt P. Tomlin on the Tennessee Court of Appeals.

Prior to joining EmergeLaw in 2019, Nancy served for 25 years as a career law clerk for two Nashville Bankruptcy Judges, Hon. George C. Paine, II (retired) and Hon. Randal S. Mashburn. During her years in private practice, she has guided dozens of business clients through out-of-court workouts and Chapter 11 restructurings, often utilizing Subchapter V, the streamlined form of Chapter 11 created by Congress in 2019 and expanded in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition to utilizing Subchapter V to restructure overleveraged small businesses, Nancy has written and spoken extensively on the new law.

The Sixth Circuit Judicial Council will consider the list of recommended candidates to be the next Nashville Bankruptcy Judge, with the final selection to be made by the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Anyone may submit written comments for consideration by the Judicial Council and the Court of Appeals regarding the qualifications of the final nominees. Such written comments must be received no later than January 9, 2024 at: 1) the Office of the Circuit Executive, 503 Potter Stewart United States Courthouse, 100 East Fifth Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202; or 2) CA06-CECourtAdmin@ca6.uscourts.gov.
